When I warm up to a person while I am behind the computer, it makes it easier for me to meet them in person. The more likely explanation, though, is that the anonymity of the medium, the prevalence of blogs, online photo galleries and personal Web sites like the nationwide Its just Lunch, and the comfort most of us feel in corresponding entirely through e-mail have combined to make online dating a perfectly acceptable means of meeting new people. The personals sites need to find a way to work with the social networking sites to get to these younger users.
